How to Cleanse Your Crystals
Crystals and gemstones pick up the vibrations of those who handle
them, as well as the negative energies surrounding them, and knowing how
to keep them clean will help both you and your crystal buddy.
There
are many ways to cleanse your crystals, such as water, smudging,
incense, salts, visualizations, and music, among others. There's even
essences you can mist over them! Some of these I've used and tested
myself, but I've also included ones that while I haven't yet tried them,
may be of use to you.
Remember, if you've
recently acquired, worn, or used a crystal for a while, it will need
cleansing to bring its energies back up.
Water:
To cleanse your crystal with water, simply hold your crystal under running water for a few minutes while visualizing the negative energies and vibrations being pulled away by the water. While natural water from a stream or sea water is ideal, tap water will do just fine.
Incense:
Cleansing your crystals with incense has to be one of the easiest methods I've tried so far. Light up an incense stick and place it on an incense burner of your choice (remember to do this away from anything flammable). Once there's smoke rising, simply pass your crystal over the smoke a few times.
Smudging:
Sage or Sweetgrass are also good to help you cleanse your crystals. Light the smudge stick and pass it over the crystal (if it's large) or hold pass it over the smoke (if it's small).
Salts:
Salt is known as one of the most powerful cleansing tools out there, and it's also readily available in most stores. For this method, you will need sea salt. Place your crystals in a bowl of salt overnight and rinse the salt off thoroughly after. Be sure to avoid using this method with any friable, fragile or layered crystals, however.
Music:
This is one of the newest methods I learned, and I'm very excited to try it. This method uses the vibrations music emits to raise your crystals vibrations (as well as your own). Find music that is upbeat or happy, or even some soothing and relaxing music, and raise the volume so it's heard loud and clear throughout the room. You can also go to YouTube where there's many videos specifically uploaded to help you cleanse with their vibrations. Let them play out for a while or until the video is over and you're done!
Visualizing Light:
Hold the crystal in both hands while visualizing a ray of bright white light shining down on it. Do this until you feel your crystal is clean from any negative or heavy energy. You can also use the flame of a candle as your light if visualizing is difficult for you, holding the crystal a safe distance away.

Amethyst, though a very popular stone, should not be underestimated. It's an extremely powerful and protective stone primarily associated with the Crown Chakra (but is also an amazing stone for working with the Third Eye and Etheric Chakras), making it a vital stone to anyone looking to open and/or work with their Third Eye. This stone transmutes negative, ill-intended energy into loving and positive energy, making it a great talisman to wear as a protective barrier as well. In meditaion, it aides in calming racing thoughts, allowing you to focus on and remember visualization work, as well as recalling and interpreting dream messages and journeys, (specially if placed on your Third Eye in meditation, and under your pillow for Dream Works). Amethyst guides you to understand the deeper meanings and reasons behind pleople's actions, wether it be addictions, negative behavioral patterns, or even depression, and it helps to soothe anxiety as well as lower vibration emotional states. Known also as a Soul Healer, it is a deeply spiritual stone that, when worn (specially when placed on or above the head), it facilitates enlightenment, activates the higher Chakras, and aids you in developing your intuition and spiritual awareness. The high frequency of this stone purifies the aura of negative energies and attachments, allowing you to remain clear and centered while opening yourself up to spiritual guidance. Overall, I consider Amethyst as one of the many must have's in any spiritual worker's/witch's collection, as it's spiritual potential is vast and powerful. As with all your crystals and stones, make sure that you cleanse and charge your stones at least once a month. While Amethyst transmutes energy from negative to positive, it is not like Black Tourmaline, Obsidian, or Smoky Quartz, which do all the work on their own. Amethyst does retain some negative energies over time, and needs to be cleansed and recharged to be happy.
